Emigrate to Germany as a Skilled Tradesperson
Germany's updated Skilled Immigration Act (Fachkräfteeinwanderungsgesetz, 2023) and the new Chancenkarte (Opportunity Card) have made Germany one of the most accessible destinations in Europe for qualified tradespeople from outside the EU. Electricians, plumbers, carpenters, welders, HVAC technicians, and construction specialists are among the most in-demand. The Opportunity Card lets you enter Germany to job-search for up to 12 months without a job offer in hand.
Typical Salary
€28,000 – €52,000 per year (varies significantly by trade and region)
Processing Time
3–6 months from initial qualification assessment

Chancenkarte (Opportunity Card)
A points-based entry visa introduced in 2024. You need a foreign vocational qualification (or degree), 2+ years experience, B1 German or A2 German plus B2 English, and €1,027 in savings per month of stay. Allows job-searching in Germany for up to 1 year. Convert to a work permit once employed.
Skilled Worker Visa (with recognition)
If your trade qualification is recognised (or can be recognised via the anabin database or the Recognition Advisory Centre), you can apply directly for a work permit with a job offer. Germany funds partial qualification top-up programmes if your cert is 'substantially equivalent.'
